Frequently Asked Questions
What is an elective ultrasound?
We offer 3D/4D imaging to provide an early bonding experience between the unborn baby and the expectant parents.
Will the 3D/4D ultrasound take the place of my physician ordered ultrasounds?
No. The diagnostic ultrasound that your doctor will order between 19-22 weeks must be completed before an elective scan can be performed. 3D/4D ultrasounds are not recommended as a tool to evaluate the fetus for potential abnormalities.
How far into my pregnancy should I be to have my 3D/4D scan?
We recommend having your ultrasound between 28-34 weeks. At this stage of pregnancy, the fat has begun to deposit on the baby, giving it the soft, cherubic features that makes the image so lifelike.
Will I always get perfect pictures of my baby?
Usually, but not always. Sometimes the baby may be camera shy and continuously face down. Most of the time we will change the mother's position and get satisfactory pictures. We cannot make any guarantees that the images we get will resemble those you may have seen on TV or in advertisements. Gestational age, position, fluid level and the mother's body type are all factors that affect the image quality. Please rest assured that we will do everything possible to achieve beautiful pictures.
How many people can come with me to my scan?
This is a time for sharing and we encourage family members to attend. However, we do limit the number of guests to five because any more can be distracting to parents.
Who will be performing my ultrasound?
The 3D/4D Ultrasound will be performed by one of our staff sonographers. They have years of experience in routine ob/gyn and high risk pregnancy ultrasound.
Is this ultrasound covered by my insurance?
No, elective ultrasounds are not covered by insurance. You will be responsible for the cost.
